from several jazz bands from the mid to late 1920's.
Many of these selections contain hot jazz solos.

Red Nichols: Tracks 1,2,3,4,5 and 6

His recordings of the late 1920s are regarded as the most progressive jazz of the period in both concept and execution, with widely-ranging harmonies and a balanced ensemble.

Nichols' band started out with Miff Mole on trombone and Jimmy Dorsey on alto sax and clarinet. Other musicians who played for a time in his bands in the following decade were Benny Goodman (clarinet), Glenn Miller (trombone), Jack Teagarden (trombone), Pee Wee Russell (clarinet), Joe Venuti (violin), Eddie Lang (banjo and guitar), and Gene Krupa (drums).
 

The Original Wolverines - Tracks 7 and 8
Popular mid western jazz band of the 1920's with many of it's musicians transplanted from Chicago.

These 2 tracks included musicians:  Jimmy McPartland (cornet) Mike Durso (trombone) Maurice Bercov (clarinet, alto saxophone) Dick Voynow (piano, director) Dick McPartland (guitar) Basil Dupree (bass) and Vic Moore (drums)

 

Bix Beiderbecke And His Gang - Tracks 9 and 10
Popular cornet jazz musician that played with several bands of the 1920's.

These 2 tracks feature 2 nice solos by Bix.

Musicians on these 2 tracks include Bix Beiderbecke (cornet) Bill Rank (trombone) Izzy Friedman (clarinet) Roy Bargy or Tom Satterfield (piano) Min Leibrook (bass saxophone) and Harry Gale (drums)

 

Ted Wallace And His Campus Boys - Tracks 11 and 12

Led by Ed Kirkeby who recorded extensively under many pseudonyms in the 1920's and 1930's.


 

Duke Ellington And His Orchestra - Track 13,14,15,and 16
These early tracks feature hot solos that have become legendary.
The Jungle Band was also a pseudonym for Duke Ellington Orchestra.

Some of the stars on these sessions were Cootie Williams (trumpet), Arthur Whetsel  (trumpet), Freddy Jenkins (trumpet), Joe Nanton (trombone)  and Johnny Hodges (clarinet)
