MARION HARRIS (Born 1896 – Died 1944)

Harris began her recording career at Victor in 1916.
Her Victor career spanned three years.
She emerged as one of the hottest female jazz
singers of the age.
Harris signed an exclusive contract with Columbia in 1920.
She had more freedom in material for her recordings.
Her singing style develops into a more stylized
interpretation during this period.
When she signed with Brunswick in 1922, the label
featured her on the cover of their late year supplement.
By this period her interpretations are further refined
displaying her unique style of painting the songs with her voice.
The last 2 songs recorded in 1927 show her at the peak of her powers
